Payment Methods

Clear terms for every transaction

How Payment Works

When you book with 4Drive Tunisia, you pay a booking advance online using a credit or debit card. This secures your reservation and confirms the dates, vehicle, and any optional extras. Cash payments are not accepted online. The advance amount is shown during the booking process and is charged immediately to the card you enter.

The balance is due when you collect the vehicle. The exact payment method for the balance - whether debit card, cash, or credit card - depends on the specific vehicle you have booked and is clearly stated in the booking flow and in your voucher. You receive the voucher by email after completing your reservation. Always check the voucher before you travel.

All transactions in Tunisia are processed in Tunisian dinars (TND). If your card is issued in another currency, your bank will convert the amount and may apply a foreign exchange fee. Contact your card issuer for details on conversion rates and charges.

Accepted Cards

We accept the following cards for the online booking advance. All payments are processed through a secure gateway with encryption and fraud monitoring.

Visa Debit and credit cards issued worldwide.
Mastercard Debit and credit cards issued worldwide.
Maestro Debit cards issued in Europe and selected markets.
TND Cash Accepted at pickup for the balance only, not online.

Check that your card is valid for international transactions and has sufficient funds or available credit. Some banks block overseas payments by default; notify your bank before booking if you encounter declined transactions.

Paying the Balance at Pickup

The amount you pay at pickup is the total rental cost minus the advance you already paid online. The voucher lists the balance in Tunisian dinars. The local rental company at the counter will charge this amount using the payment method specified for your vehicle.

If your vehicle is marked as accepting debit card or cash for the balance, you can use either. If only a specific method is listed, you must use that method. Requirements vary from vehicle to vehicle, not by vehicle class or category. Always read the payment terms in your booking summary and voucher.

Bring sufficient cash in Tunisian dinars if cash payment is required, or ensure your debit card has an adequate balance. Currency exchange is available at Tunis-Carthage International Airport (TUN) and banks in major towns, though rates at the airport are usually less favourable than downtown exchange offices.

No Deposit and No Credit Card

Some vehicles in our fleet are marked "No Deposit" and accept debit cards or cash for the balance. This means the local rental company does not place a hold or block on your card when you collect the vehicle. The excess (the amount you remain liable for in case of damage) is still in force; no deposit simply means no funds are frozen during the rental.

Excess and deposit are independent parameters. A vehicle with no deposit may have a high or low excess, and that figure is shown separately in the booking terms. No deposit does not mean you are covered beyond the terms of the insurance package included with the vehicle.

If you do not have a credit card, look for vehicles marked "No Deposit" and confirm that the balance can be paid by debit card or cash. For vehicles that do require a credit card, consider asking your bank to increase the limit on your debit card temporarily, as some banks allow this for travel purposes. Requirements are set per vehicle, not per customer or class.

Deposit Refunds

If your vehicle does require a deposit, the local rental company will place a hold on your credit card at pickup. This hold is released after you return the vehicle, provided there is no damage, missing fuel, or traffic fines outstanding. The deposit amount and the estimated refund timeframe are stated in your booking summary and voucher.

Refund timing depends on the rental company and your card issuer. Holds are typically released within seven to fourteen working days, though some banks take longer to process the reversal. 4Drive Tunisia does not control this process; the hold is placed and released by the local company that hands over the vehicle. If a hold is not released within the stated period, contact the rental company directly using the details in your voucher.

Any deductions from the deposit - for fuel top-up, toll charges, or damage - are decided by the rental company. Inspect the vehicle carefully before you drive away and ensure all existing damage is recorded in the rental agreement you sign at pickup.

Cancellation and Refunds of the Advance

Cancellation terms are shown during booking and in your voucher. Many vehicles include free cancellation up to a specified number of hours before pickup. If you cancel within the free period, the full advance is refunded to the card you used for payment.

Refunds are processed within five to ten working days, depending on your card issuer. If you cancel outside the free period, cancellation fees may apply, and the refund will be reduced accordingly. The exact fee structure is listed in the terms you accept when you book.

To cancel, log in to your account or contact us at [email protected] with your booking reference. We confirm the cancellation and the refund amount by email. For further questions, see our terms and conditions or visit the FAQ page.

Payment Security

All card payments are processed through a PCI-DSS compliant payment gateway with SSL encryption. Your card number, CVV, and expiry date are transmitted directly to the payment processor; 4Drive Tunisia does not store or have access to your full card details. We retain only a masked reference for reconciliation and customer support.

We monitor transactions for fraud and may ask for additional verification if a payment is flagged by our security systems. This may include a request to provide a photo of the card (with middle digits obscured) or a bank statement. Such requests are sent by email and are used solely to confirm the transaction.

If you notice an unauthorised charge on your statement, contact us immediately at [email protected]. Also notify your card issuer and follow their dispute procedure. We investigate all reports and co-operate fully with card schemes and law enforcement.

Can I pay the full amount in cash when I collect the vehicle?

No. A booking advance must be paid online by card when you reserve. The balance can be paid in cash at pickup only if the specific vehicle you booked accepts cash for that purpose, as stated in your voucher.

Do I need a credit card if the vehicle is marked No Deposit?

Not necessarily. Vehicles marked No Deposit often accept debit cards or cash for the balance. Check the payment requirements for the specific vehicle during booking and in your voucher.

How long does it take to refund the booking advance if I cancel?

Refunds are processed within five to ten working days, depending on your card issuer. If you cancel within the free cancellation window, the full advance is returned. Cancellation fees may apply outside that window.

What currency will I be charged in?

All charges are in Tunisian dinars (TND). Your bank converts the amount if your card is in another currency and may apply a foreign exchange fee.

Who do I contact if my deposit is not refunded on time?

The deposit is held and released by the local rental company, not by 4Drive Tunisia. Contact the company using the details in your voucher. If you need help, email us at [email protected].
